What moves to Equity & General

Four functions move to Equity & General on the day you join. Your clients keep the same adviser and the same firm name.

The four functions

1

Compliance

File reviews, Consumer Duty evidence, PROD, the governance calendar, the FCA correspondence and the returns.

2

Paraplanning

Research, suitability reports, cash-flow work and annual review packs, written by people who do nothing else.

3

Administration

New business, transfers, provider chasing, valuations and the day-to-day work behind every client file.

4

Infrastructure

Back-office and platform technology, cyber security and professional indemnity, and the bills that come with all three.

What stays yours

You own the business, you advise the clients and you decide the pace. On the day you step back, you are selling your own firm.

Yours

  • Ownership of the business
  • The advice and every client relationship
  • The order in which legacy clients are contacted
  • The timetable for the handover and the exit

Equity & General’s

  • Compliance oversight and the FCA correspondence
  • Paraplanning and suitability reports
  • Administration and provider chasing
  • Technology, cyber security and professional indemnity

How the exit is agreed

Reconnecting with legacy clients

A long-standing practice has relationships that went quiet: the client who moved, the one whose adviser retired and passed them to you, the one you have been meaning to ring for years.

Clients with no recent review on file lower the price a buyer will pay, and their ongoing fees are hard to evidence under Consumer Duty.

Equity & General’s trainee advisers work through those relationships in order. They re-establish contact, update the file and hand each client back to you or your team for the advice. Each client gets the service they pay for, and the file is in better order when the firm is valued.

  • They introduce themselves as part of your firm.
  • You decide who they contact and in what order.
  • They reconnect and update the file, and the advice stays with you.
